Well it is finally happening. My family is really excited for the entire Nichols clan to finally get together. Our parents did a great job of keeping us together and instilling within us a great sense of family, but our generation as not been as diligent. I want to change that. One of the best things about being a Nichols is, since our parents did their best to get us together when we were young we now have the ability when we do see one another too act as though we've lived next door to each other our whole lives. I want my children to have that same experience. Between our parents and some who have grandchildren there will be 4 generations of the Nichols family on one beach...Lord help those other resort guest!
Well I believe we finally have a resort to hold our reunion. The link is : http://www.corollalightresort.com/maps/mainmap.htm
Each family should pick a home in the "Corolla Light Town Center" section. When you click on a numbered property lot a link will take you to the rental agency that manages that particular home. There you will find all of that homes information, such as number of rooms, how many it sleeps, etc. Please book homes for the July 4th week of 2010. Some homes are already booked for that week, so I suggest all families pick a home and make reservations as soon as possible.
Spread the word to all family members that this should be a 'must attend' event, and steer them to this blog for reunion info. As soon as you make your reservations please post the house lot number to this blog. We will use this as our official reunion site so everyone can keep up on who is attending, and which house they will be in.
If anyone knows how to get in touch with Angela please pass this information on to her. I'm hoping we get all members there.

ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, I'm glad everybody is getting excited about this. Along with my wife Nicole and I will be our two kids, my son Morgan who will be 18, and my daughter Halle who will be 8. Neither Mike or Jim have a wife or kids, but Kathy and her husband Scott have three boys. Nick will be 13, Rory will be 10 and Jack will be 8.
ReplyDeleteTina, will please talk with Danny as well as all of the Brooks family about the reunion when you see them. I believe my mother will also be there this weekend.
Yes, i heard your mom will be there! I"m excited to see her. I plan to bring everyone up to speed and would love to have commitments from them so we can start working on house sharings, etc. For my family, it will be and my son, John Michael, who is 5. I concur with Cindy - thank you for organizing and putting this together!
ReplyDeleteWho knows where to find Aunt Carol, Jennifer and Suzanne?
ReplyDeleteAunt Sandy must know how to contact Carol. I'll ask sunday.
ReplyDeleteThis is great guys!! I should be in bed but I've been looking at the properties. We need to move along pretty quick this month as there are many already reserved for the week of July 3, 2010. The houses are from 3BR to 7BR and sleep anywhere from 8 to 20, so we should be able to accommodate everyone with just a little matching up here and there. For some of the kids we can also take air mattresses, as many houses have small dens, game rooms and library that can be used for bedrooms for some of the kids that don't want to sleep with Mom and Dad. I will be with 2 of my kids, Elizabeth-16 and Bobby-12. Billy has confirmed him, his wife Carla and 2 of his kids, Karlie-9, and Gus-14. His daughter Natalie-19 may come and his daughter Ashley-24, may come with her husband and 2 little girls, I think they are 2 and 4. Kathy is coming with one daughter-Katie-15. Mom and Donna will come with her son Ian-12. As soon as we have a good head count we can work on which houses. Right now there are still several next to each other. Thanks John!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have been talking about this for years and finally it looks like it.s going to happen. I will be attending with my Wife Robin, my sons Tyler[17],Austin[15],Dylan[13] & my daughter Krysta[11]. I know Keith is interested with his 3 Kids Morgan,Alexis,& Hunter. I think Dad and Mom are also interested. I am leaning towards Oceanfront for my family.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how excited I am that the family is embracing this reunion. Thanks to all who are committed to attending.
ReplyDeleteMy family takes a beach vacation together every year, and the way we make it affordable is by renting one large house and sharing the cost equally. We split the cost per room, not by the amount of members in each family. Just like Keri stated, Kathy's and my children stay on air mattresses in the den.
I would like at least one home that will act as the family's base for non-beach get togethers and activites, so we will be renting an oceanfront home. Those families that stay non-oceanfront can leave their beach chairs, toys, etc. at our rental instead of hauling everything back to their homes. Staying non-oceanfront can drop the rental price dramatically. As an example, take a look at house #208. This house has 6 bedrooms and sleeps 12, in beds, and many more on the floor. It is about half the price of an oceanfront home, yet it is just across the street. Another item for families to think about is the rental insurance. This is optional, and by opting out can save between $350 and $650+ depending on the house.
Just FYI, Shae will be 17 and Suni will be 11 at the reunion. Brian (my son) will be 24, but still do not know if he will be able to make it.
ReplyDeleteHey everyone, if we move ahead quick enough with the head count on who is confirmed to be there, right now there are about six or seven properties right next door to each other just one block from the beach. All are 5 or 6 bedrooms and range from $3800 to $5000, with a few beach front across the street that are all 6BR/6BA and a bit more expensive. I, for one, would love if we could all be next door to each other and it would be fantastic for the kids. If you want to check them out on the map of the properties they are #208, 211, 212, 213, 214, and across the street beach front are 201, 202, and 203. This grouping won't last long so lets see if we can confirm things up in the next week or two. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BLAST!! Can't wait! Don't forget to be sure all the 'Original Nichols Clan' are invited. Gary and Birdie, Danny, Sandy and Peter, Mary, Esther, and Carol, we expect you all to join us.
ReplyDeleteI am itching to book but still need to figure out who is going from my family. Hopefully sunday will be a productive day! I too would love it if we could be next door to each other! My only disappointment is having to wait 10 months to see everyone!!
ReplyDeleteTina, I saw Cindy's post. What about Joey and Frank, any idea about their thoughts? Tell Uncle Danny I said Happy Birthday and all the Brooks clan HI for me.
ReplyDeleteWe've just booked our house. We decided on #107-Family Dreams, since it is the only home with a outside living area large enough to host the entire family in the evenings. The row of homes, #114 through #108 appear to be renting for a good price, which means we could still be next to each other. The only issue with the house we've booked is the check-in. It is a Sunday-Sunday rental, but we could either find a hotel for Saturday, or we crash that first night on the floors of other family members homes. This also means that any and all members who want to stay through Sunday can crash on the floor of our rental that last night.
ReplyDeleteJOHN!!! OMG!!!!!!! You did it! I can't believe yall got that house. It is absolutely breathtaking. You can all crash where-ever we end up. 124, 125, 126, and 127 are right across the street and are all still open. 108 is available, as is 110, but 109, 111 & 112 are rented already. The front door view from 124, 125 & 126 are looking across the street at this house with the ocean behind it. It is a gorgeous view. 108 is right next door with a view of the pool. I will call in the morning and get prices on all of these and post. I just tried but they have already closed for the day. I still can't believe you got 107 !!! You are crazy!! But I am so glad you did. This is going to be absolutely fabulous! If anyone has any doubt that this is the Nichols Family re-union you need to make, just go take a look at this house. We all owe Dick and Mary's kids a great big THANK YOU for booking this as the main get-together house. It will be enjoyed by all.
ReplyDeleteOur family just booked #110, just a few doors down from 107. As promised, I have called and checked availabilty as of this morning on the surrounding properties. 124 and 128 have booked in the last few days. Still available are 108, a 5BR for $4800. 118, a 4BR for $2900. 123, a 5BR for $3795. 125, a 5BR for $5000. 126, a 5BR for $4150. and 127, a 6BR for $5725. You can hold all for $40 or $50 until lease signing in November when 1/2 payment is due, except 125 whose hold is $100. 3 of these are July 3rd arrival and 3 are July 4th, so we may all be bunking up some on the night of the 3rd. Ours is July 3rd so we will have room. I encourage every family to try and make a hold on a property this week before they are booked. If you change your mind or decide on a different property all you are out is the hold fee. You have until lease signing in November to make changes. 118 is about a block away from John's house. All the other properties are next door or just across the street. Just a few streets over 141 is 5BR w/pool for $4400. 142 is 5BR for $3400, and 143 is 4BR for $2700, and all 3 of these are available also. I hope this gives everyone a broad price range but still staying close to all the action. Don't forget to post here after you book. Happy house hunting.
ReplyDeleteKeri, thanks for gathering the info on the other homes and posting it here.
ReplyDeleteYes, thanks Keri!! Hopefully we will have things figured out after tomorrow and i plan to book this week.
ReplyDeleteI just talked with Billy and all of his bunch is coming. His wife, Carla,& kids- Natalie(19), Gus (14), Karlie (9), his daughter Kristy, husband and 3 kids, Logan (11), Josey (6), Regan (4), his daughter Ashley, husband and 2 girls, Emily (2), Lilly (1). Due to this large turn-out, he is booking tomorrow morning #134 for them. They will probably have available space for 1 or 2 if there is an odd man out. We will now have an extra bedroom plus a sleeper sofa for someone in need since Billy will be in his own rental. If anyone is short on space, let us know.
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteKevin's had a hard time posting so i thought i'd give a quick update. Due to the different school schedules we will not request a date change. Joe can't make it july 4th week due to his business but thought he could make it early August, hence the thought of throwing out another date. Plus others had some concerns about that week as well. After talking with Keri Nichols last night - which by the way was great - we realize that won't work. So we are going to stick with the date and try to get commitments this week to go ahead and get our bookings done!
I pulled the trigger and reserved house #108. Still not sure who else is going with me besides my wife and kids.More than likley Gary & Birdie , Keith and his kids. If they don't that just means more alcohol for me. I am so looking forward to doing this.
ReplyDeleteKevin, That is great news! Now we need to hear from the Brooks' and see where they are. Will you check with your Mom and see if she has any contact information for Angela. I'll be happy to call her, but I need some help with how to get in touch with her. My # is 318-458-2775.
ReplyDeleteTina, It was great talking with you, too!! We have so many fond memories of the times we spent together as kids, and talking with each other helps to bring back those great memories. I can't wait til we are all together again to share all those times in person. You and I talked about a picture we took at the old house on South Street when we all lined up on the staircase. I want us to all line up on the stairs in front of house #107 and take another picture of the cousins, almost 40 years later. And then we need to take another picture with the whole bunch, all 4 generations!! What an awesome keepsake to share with our kids and grandkids!
Hi all! Sounds like the reunion is full steam ahead. I'll talk to my parents, Keri, and Mike and see where they stand. I plan to attend with my husband, Chris, and our 5-year-old daughter Sophia. Keri has two kids, Madeline (8) and Logan (7), and Mike is single w/o kids. Will check back soon. Thanks so much, John, for planning this!! xo Lesli
ReplyDeleteCindy her husband and 2 kids, Isabel 10; Julia 6 and Me and John Michael, 5 are booked!! Woo hoo! We chose 139. We will bring Joe's girls Elizabeth 12; Emily 10 and have space for Joe if he can get away for a few days! We're so excited! Also thinking of flying - 16 hrs in a car by myself with 3 kids has mental breakdown written all over it!! See you in July ...
ReplyDeleteGreat Tina and Cindy! That makes 64 confirmed Nichols on one beach. We have a few more to go. If anyone is hesitating because they don't need a whole house, please remember, there are rooms available in the now 5 homes we have booked. We want as close to 100% turnout as we can get.
ReplyDeleteThe Brooks family is now booked: Lesli, Chris, and Sophia (6); Keri, Doug, Madeline (8), Logan (7); Michael; Sandy & Peter. We are in #145, across the street from Tina & Cindy. We will fly from Colorado, and the rest will drive from Mass. YAY!! xo Lesli
ReplyDeleteGreat news today. Just a few more missing members and we'll be complete. The difficult part is the waiting. Nine months and counting.
ReplyDeleteMass family members are more than welcome to crash at our house in Maryland. That way you only need to drive 7 hours one day and 5.5 hours the next. We have 2 spare bedrooms and lots of floor space. Do the same on the trip home.
Wonderful News~!!! We now have 73 Nichols members to be on one beach in July 2010 !! If we can talk Frank into coming and get in touch with Angela and her family so they can come, we will be 82 strong!. Jennifer and Suzanne could possibly send us over the 90 mark. The great old times will be back, but BETTER with the new generations included. Everyone, don't forget to rummage through those old photo albums and bring pictures you have of days and loved ones now gone. We want to remember EVERYONE!
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteEsther said to tell you that ALL Nichols know how to wait 9 months.

ReplyDeleteGood one mom...that's why there's almost 80 onboard! LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help, Keri...much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm feeling very embarrased for just now getting to posting...the school year is in full swing and I stay very busy. Anyhow, I too hope to be able to attend. Don't know yet if my husband, Tooter, will be with me or my eldest daughter Meagan (21 by next summer). Meagan will try to get off from work, will know more later. But Katie (16 next summer) will be with me. Looking forward to a great time!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer to stay in baltimore for the night! can I reserve a spot for me, john michael and emily and elizabeth? I was thinking of flying instead of driving myself with the kids but I know i can make it 8 hours and then the next day will be a breeze! Consider us booked at the Nichols Baltimore hotel! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSee Donna, it's easy to post!!!!!
No problem Tina, you're booked for the night. I can't wait to see you and the kids.
ReplyDeleteJohn, It looks like all the arrival dates are for Saturday the 3rd, except for yours and Kevin's. We will have plenty of room, and I am sure Billy and Tina can put some up as well.
ReplyDeleteKevin, We also have level 1 bedrooms so it will be easier access for your Mom for that night.
I am so happy that this has all come together so well.
Hi Everybody!! I finally figured out how to get on. Scott and I have several extra beds and my mom also has several extra beds for anyone wanting to take a break half way. My oldest Nick just got certified for scuba diving. My husband is looking into wrecks to dive at. If anyone is interested, let me know and he will let you know options.
ReplyDeleteI spoke with Aunt Carol last night. Looks like their in: Jennifer & Jon, Suzanne, Carol & Paul. However Carol said they might look into a hotel. No way!!! we need to get them to stay with us. Keri you are on it. Jen's # 603-648-2805 , Carol's # 603-913-4767. I think Jen knows how to get in touch with Angela. We are almost there.
ReplyDeleteAnyone coming in on Saturday can stay w/ us, too. We'll have a couple of bunks free and lots of space in the living room to put the kids if more beds are needed.
ReplyDeleteI want to know what Keri said to get her message deleted!!
I'm on it Kevin. I'll call them tomorrow. Our motto is NO NICHOLS AT NO HOTEL! We can work it out with the houses we have. Besides, the hotel prices around there are astronomical.
ReplyDeleteTina knows about the deleted message. Ask her.
Great news that Suzanne and Jen were found and are on board!!
ReplyDeleteKeri, my lips are sealed!
Tina and Cindy,
ReplyDeleteNow it is up to you guys to get Frank on board. Tell him he is going to be the only one not there and we will ALL hold it against him if he doesn't make it. He will be the only one to prevent us from having 100% participation. Nana would not be happy!! She is liable to send some curse down on him. He should really think this through.
Lesli,
I guess you'll never know. Tina is hush-hush. Maybe we can talk about it in July!
Who is Uncle Danny coming with?? He has to be there!!
ReplyDeleteHi everybody! We are very excited to see you all. It looks like Jen, Hunter (11), Hayley (8) mom, Paul and I will be attending, not sure about Jen's husband. Still working on "sleeping arrangements." Mom is trying to get a hold of Angela-will let you know. See you in July.:)
ReplyDeleteI'm working on uncle Danny. If he comes he will probably stay with us. I also wan't to know what you said!!! I will wait until July.
ReplyDeleteHey Susanne & Jen,
ReplyDeleteso glad you're coming! It's been too long since i've seen you - still have you in my head as "kids." I think you'll find it cheaper to rent a house - hotel prices in the resort are quite pricey for a week's stay. You should be able to get a 4 bedroom for under $3K. try house #138 - i think it's still available. See you in july!
Hi to everyone,
ReplyDeleteThis is Sandy - I pirated Lesli's acct.
I finally hooked on to the blog (or should I say Michael got me there) He is such a good son
We are all looking forward to this reunion although one week hardly seems long enough, so we will have to make the most of every day!!!
We have secured house #145 (thanks to our kids who made the decision and we just tag along.
Thank you John and Kevin for their decisions on North Carolina (where we spend time in the Spring in Wake Forest with our good friends from High School in Needham. We will have to drag Danny since he probably won't commit. readily. His B-Day party was such a surprise for him and we were glad to help him celebrate.
We'll check in on you later. Aunt Sandy
P.S. Lesli and I were wondering if anyone would be interested in T-Shirts (Paid for by each family)? Lesli and Chris will look into this idea and suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.
I think T-shirts sound great. It would be awesome to all wear them one or two days while we are there. I will run the idea by my bunch. Actually, that is what the deleted post was. Just wondering if anyone else thought it was a good idea. Right Tina?!? LOL.
ReplyDeleteYeah, right, Keri, you were commenting on t-shirts...come on!! Anyway, I'm looking into white t-shirts with "Nichols Family Reunion 2010" printed on them, and will look into getting a few styles (men's, women's, kids).
ReplyDeleteHi Susanne! It's so great to hear that you are all coming. I looked into quite a few houses and found some good deals: #118 is $2,695; #120 is $2,500; #117 is $3,005. For this realtor, you send only $40 now to cover the reservation, then 1/2 is due in December. Good luck!
Tshirts are a great idea! I design and produce tshirts a few times a year for my companies new product launches, dealer and sales events. I should be able to get them produced fairly inexpensively. I can work with Lesli as I don't want to stop on any toes - but i'm happy to help design and produce if needed. Les, get in touch via email on this and we can chat. Let's not forget to produce "a bad egg" shirt for Keri Nichols!! She knows why!!
ReplyDeleteHi Keri - I agree, it would be great to get Frank there as well (we'll work on it)!! I love reading this blog everyday, it's such a nice way to connect with everyone.
ReplyDeleteSusanne & Jen - So excited you both are coming. I think of you often!
Tshirts would be awesome, although I am sure Keri N. is not the only Nichols who needs a "bad egg" tshirt!
Thank you Cindy!! The others KNOW who they are so I don't need to mention any names.
ReplyDeleteAs sad as this is, Keri is the only one who needs the bad egg shirt. Misery loves company hence keri's attempt to drag others down with her! HA!
ReplyDeleteAlright Tina, I agreed to keep things between us to save face for you after that sob story you laid on me. But if you continue to try and make me out some kind of "bad egg" I'll be forced to crack open the shell. Be careful, rotten eggs have a very offensive odor.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteKeri,
ReplyDeleteDon't make such a fuss, we will give you one of the Nichols' family reunion tshirts. Just mind yourself from here on in!!
OK Tina,
ReplyDeleteWe will call it a draw, FOR NOW. By the way, I have those proctologist references you have been waiting for!!!
Are you two gonna need a time out before we even get there?
ReplyDeleteTrue Nichols fashion! Not any doubt about our bloodline! HA!!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say she started it!!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention Keri's older so she should know better!
ReplyDeleteThat's right! I'm your elder so show some respect. Jezzzzzzzzzz.
ReplyDeleteHi guys! It's Aunt Carol.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I tried to get in touch w/ Angela and her phone has been disconnected. Anyone know her married name? I forgot it ( must be old age setting in). Can't wait to see you all in July....been along time
Love: Aunt Carol
Hi Aunt Carol!!! Great to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteKevin, does your Mom have an address, number, or anything for Angela. I can try to send her a letter.
Anyone else have any ideas??
Hey Tina! It has been a long time, this is a great idea to have a reunion. We have lots of catching up!!
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy and Lesli!! Can't wait to see you guys.
Hi everyone! Can't wait to see everyone. Some of you I have never met or dont remember because I was too small! It will be alot of fun! :) I have a son Hunter who is 11 and a daughter Hayley who is 8. My kids are getting very excited to meet everyone!
ReplyDeleteJen
Oh cool, Tshirts!
ReplyDeleteThere's a really bad smell here in Arkansas...can't decide if the wind is bringin it in from the North or South...hummmm. Kinda reminds me of hydrogen sulfide gas.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI can't convey how ecstatic I am that everyone is excited about this reunion. If Uncle Danny comes, and I know the MASS bunch will convince him, we are 80 strong. We are going to look more like a large tour group than a family. What a great time we will have, and what an awesome experience for our children, to know they are part of such a large and loving famly!! OK. Enough mushy stuff. Aunt Carol, Jen and Susanne, don't forget to post when you decide where you will stay (and don't forget that we have plenty of room in the houses we have if you want). Summer can't come soon enough!

I should have asked what is the baby's name before I posted the list again. Congratulations, Brian and Burt and Cherrie for becoming grandparents!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat? Grandparents? Ok, how long have I been gone?
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteBrian's baby is Kaelyn and she is 3. Billy has been a grandparent for 11 years now. Burt has one grand and Billy has 5!!
What a group! I can't believe we pulled this off. It's going to be so much fun. Sophia is shocked to see that she has all this family that she has never met before. Can't wait until July!!
ReplyDeleteAnd we pulled it all together in just 2 weeks. John opened this blog on Sept. 8th.
ReplyDeleteMan, we are all good!!! HAHA!!
John and Keri, you both really motivated this whole thing!!!! Great job!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, but for this to come into being, we ALL had to really want it....and I, for one, am so happy we are all ready to do this. It has been a long time coming. Once we get Carol's families arrangements posted it would be great, I think, if we could all continue to post here weekly about what is going on with our lives and our kids between now and the time we start talking about travel plans. If everyone is on board, it would be a great way to get to know everyone and their families before we meet in July. Give me some feed back and let me know how everyone else feels about that. We can all get to know who the hunter, scuba diver, soccer player, scholar, couch potatoe, debutant, gymnist, soldier, business executive, educator, farmer, stay at home mom, retiree, etc. is and feel a little more connected than we already do. Of course, I should ask John about this first since he opened this blog for all of us to begin with.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think??
Here, here to John & Keri. Good job ya'll.
ReplyDeleteHi Keri, I may have opened this blog, but it belongs to everybody in this family to do with, and post what they want. I only wanted; 1. A central place where we can share info about the reunion and the plans of our individual family. 2. To generate excitement in all family members so they will realize that if they do not come, they would be missing something special, which in turn would make them come. 3. It seemed much easier than sending out mass emails everytime there was news about the reunion. 4. Lastly, by the time we all get together we will "know" each other. This way when we do get together in July we will be like old friends, and all we have to do is put a face on the friend we already know. I was concerned that if we didn't get to know one another until the beach it would have delayed the bonding and the fun. After seeing how quick everybody is to participate and interact on this blog my fear may have been unfounded, but I'm still glad it's here. So please do not place me in charge of content. As I stated this blog is the families not mine, and Keri, I love your idea.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell everybody how happy I am that the family has taken this reunion idea and ran with it. I'm proud to be a Nichols!
I second that sentiment, John! Nichols proud! So here goes. I'm a registered nurse at a local hospital. I manage the Day Surgery Department where I have been for the last 17 years. As you all should know, I am the oldest Nichols cousin so I expect some respect. LOL! Sadly, My oldest son, Bo, is doing time for a "sex crime", convicted of Indescent behavior with a juvenille for having sex with his 15 year old girlfriend when he was 2 days past his 19th birthday. He has 6 years left. Elizabeth is my beautiful 16 year old daughter, who looks just like me at her age.
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Bobby is my 12 year old son named after Daddy. I was pregnant with Bobby when Daddy passed away. My two youngest were best friends and glued at the hip until 3 years ago. Now, as expected, they both wish the other belonged to someone else. But just confront one of them in a negative way and the other still runs to their defense. Elizabeth just got her homecoming dress for this year. I'll post pictures on FB soon. She is very close friends with Kathy's daughter and Burt's daughter. They are all within 16 months of each other. Elizabeth wants to be a dentist and attend LSU. GEAUX TIGERS!! Bobby is a huge LSU football fan, just like his Grandpa! Knows all the players and coaches and their standings. He is the brainy one. School is a breeze for him, even in advanced GT classes. He must get that from me too. (Boy, I am full of it tonite!) He loves gaming on the computer and wants to be a zoologist and work with NASA on the effects on animals in space. We live in Shreveport about 3 blocks from where I grew up.
Now that I've broken the ice, It is someone else's turn.
I think we all needed to connect with "lost" family members, and that energy has culminated in all the excitement and fun of the reunion. I know that as I've grown older, I feel the need to go back to my roots and remember all the love and warmth there is in family. It's amazing how fast time goes by and how memories slip away. This reunion will bring us all together in one place, but it will also bring us all together spiritually and organically. It's good to be part of a larger self!
ReplyDeleteOK, here's my story. I'm a production editor at a small book publishing house in Boulder, CO, and have been with the same company for 16 years. I love politics, reading, yoga, music, gardening and nature. Chris and I (then boyfriend and girlfriend) moved out here in 1992 for a few years. Well, it's now been 17 years and we love it. The only drawback is that we are so far from our families. We get back East about twice a year, especially in the summer for a week on the Cape. We married in 1997 and had Sophia, the light of my life, in 2003. Sophia is 5, going on 6 in November, but seems more mature than that. She's funny and smart and very popular and outgoing, and is a nature lover like her Mom. We enjoy all the outdoors that Colorado has to offer ... camping, hiking, bike riding, skiing. Chris runs his own business, Aquatics Plus, where he installs and maintains aquariums in people's homes and offices (yes, lots of dentist offices!) He turned a hobby into a full-fledged business, and really enjoys it. He's also a big lover of cars. He owns an '87 Buick Grand National, which is his pride and joy!
ReplyDeleteThat's my life in a nutshell...who's next?
Me Me I want to go....But I have to check with Cherrie first to make sure I only put the right stuff on hear...haha. Really, I am at work and just finished reading all the posts, and can't beleive how excited everyone is about this. It is the most amazing thing how a little family can generate so much excitement. I will sit down tonight...Late after the girls are in bed and the house is quite and share my families story that is still in full swing, I think I am the only one that has slowed down, the rest are still accelerating through life. Talk tonight.
ReplyDeleteAlright, i'll go next. I'm a Early childhood teacher and assistant director at an Early Learning/Preschool center and I love it!I married in Vegas to Kyle whom some of you had the pleasure of meeting. We met in 2001 and married in 2004 and lived in Goffstown NH. He passed away last May and thank god for my family and friends i am getting through it. I have no children. Kyle and i always wanted to but time went by too fast. I enjoy "girls night" out with friends, traveling, camping and spoiling my niece and nephew. Jen, mom and I are very close and enjoy spending time together. I have been slowly building a relationship again with my dad. :)
ReplyDeleteLife goes by too fast and I'm so glad that this is happening. Who's next??;)
My husband, Scott and I have been married 16 yrs. He graduated with John and then was John's roommate. Many of the northern cousins and family were at the wedding, as well as my dearly missed Dad and Uncle Bobby with Aunt Esther. We have 3 boys, Nick is 13, Rory is 9, and Jack is 7. Nick almost died at the age of 4 when he fell out of a shopping cart. He suffered an epideral hematoma and the doctors told us during surgery he would probably die or if he survived he would be severely mentally challenged. He survived and is very bright. I prayed for Dad to be with him and he later told us about a talk he had with PopPop, whom he had never met. Rory is pretty shy and meticulous. He is very rule oriented. Jack is my youngest and is so funny. My husband said he is proof that you should not ride roller coasters pregnant.
ReplyDeleteI work for my brothers and it is wonderful because they allow me to work from home and I am always there for the kids. I am very lucky to have a great husband who is also an amazing father. My mom lives closer to me now and it is great. The only thing that could make my life better would be if Dad was still with us. None of my boys ever met him and he would have been the BEST grandpa ever!!
All I've got to say is......6 houses on the beach: thousands.
ReplyDeleteSome good food, wine and fireworks: hundreds.
80+ family members to share it with...PRICELESS!!!
Just so I have this straight in my head,
John and his family are in #107
Kevin and his bunch are in #108
Esther, Keri me and our kids are in #110
Billy and his brood are in #134
Tina, Cindy and family are in #139
And the Brooks crew are in #145
Is that right?
Sorry, my last name is Aud. Most of you don't know that. I forgot to change my post name to Donna on this thing.
ReplyDeleteSusanne, I'm so sorry about your husband.
ReplyDeleteI still miss those I have loved who are no longer with me, but I am ever so grateful for having loved them. I pray the gratitude will conquer the loss.
ReplyDeleteThere are many in this family who have suffered terrible losses. Maybe the lights in the night sky are not stars, but openings in the darkness where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are still with us waiting for when our time comes to join them. For now, we live on, strong and courageous, knowing we have the love of family.
Sweet dreams family.
Okay I will go next... I have been w/ my husband Jon for almost 13 years, But have only been married for almost 8 years...Yes I had both of my kids before I was married.. We built our house in Salisbury,NH which is the town my husband grew up in. I got pregnant with Hunter and the first 4 months the doctors said I was going to miscarry,But I din't. then at 5 months long they thought he would be down syndrome. and then at 6 months I was put on bed rest and by 7 months I had him. He was on 4lbs 2 oz. Mircle baby! Hunter is in 6th grade and is top of his class(has been since 1st grade) and then their is my daughter Hayley (she is a little shit just like me):) she was 5 days late coming and was born in a toliet! She is in 3rd grade and is liking school this year. Hunter Jon and myself all go hunting. Hunter has shot 3 turkeys and 1 deer since the age of 8. I took hunter safety class last fall 08 and this spring I shot my 1st turkey.. 18 1/2 lb with a 9 inch beard... These days it is bear hunting and my husband and I both have our bear tags and have been hunting alot... Nothing yet :( Hunter is a junior black belt in karate and plays basketball and football.. Hayley is a blue belt in karate and is a cheerleader for the football team(Hunter's). Like Sue said she lost her husband Kyle last year and of all days it was on Hayley's birthday ! Sue and I go to the ocean on that day and hang out just to be close to him. Hayley's birthday is so hard to have now it is a happy time and also a very hard time. That was Hayley's favorite uncle..she still wonders when uncle Kyle will come home.. Enough sad stuff..Jon and his family owns their own concrete business and I work just 3 mins from home at a log yard...I am in the office and do the booking. The kids can go to work with me anytime and I can also work from home . My dad cheated on my mom when I was 15 and left us... Since then my mom has remarried to a great guy named Paul. He has 3 kids i son and he also has 2 daughters.. Mom and Paul live in Penacook ,NH which they are 15 mins away from me.Talk to you all soon..
ReplyDeleteTooter and I have been married 24 years and dated 7 years before that! Meagan is our eldest and is trying to get everything worked out; which means college isn't her thing right now. So, she is working a crappy job for WalMart and hating it. Oh well, guess she'll figure it out some day. Katie is a sophomore with a really bubbly personality. She's not the cheerleader type, but very social. She is president of the art club this year and editor of the elementary section of the yearbook. She is very gifted artistically. Guess a little of my talent rubbed off on her, although she'll surpass me if she hasn't already! She's a HUGE LSU fan, just like Dad was. We visited the campus last summer to get the heads up on what she needs to get accomplished in high school to be able to make it there. She's REALLY into it! She'll be there a year after Keri's daughter Elizabeth. Funny thing is, both these two cousins want to be dentists. That's really cool! I teach art and business courses at our high school. One of the business courses is yearbook, so I stay very busy. Tooter is a huge hunter. We have many deer mounts at my place. I refuse to allow them in my bedroom though, much to Tooter's dismay! We're getting ready now for a new deer season. You hunters know how exciting this time can be! Deer cameras are constantly being moved around to see what's happening in the woods. I'm getting ready for a yearly treck to northwest Arkansas for the annual Arts & Crafts extravaganza! My FAVORITE time of the year. Mom and my best friend and her daughter are going to go with me this year. A lot of fun in store there!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of medical probs with my genes from the Nichols' side! But, I manage to have a great life anyway. Thank goodness for medical advances! I'm lucky that at 50 I can still keep up with the best of 'um. Only wish Dad could have had the same thing...

ReplyDeleteMy story: I was married to John in 1993. We were together almost 20 years and married 14. John died suddenly in March of 2007. Our son, John Michael, was 2 1/2 at the time. I have a great support system consisting of family and friends and am grateful for each and every one of them. I've made my career as an Art Director and have worked for Bose Corp. for the past 10 years. I'm fortunate to have a great job, a great company to work for, and a great boss who affords me the flexibility to be mom, dad and everything in between! John Michael started kindergarten this month, soccer 2 weeks ago and hockey registration is next week - yikes! We love the beach and all things summer although JM wants to learn to snowboard so this winter he'll take lessons and i'll finally start skiing again! We are excited to meet, reconnect and spend time with all of you next summer!

O wow, I LOVE this blog! Great to be able to get to know everyone again...
ReplyDeleteLesli, Susanne, Kathy S., Jen, Tina, Kathy T.,
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing. I feel closer to everyone already. What is evident from everyones posts is how important family is to all of us. I believe that Lesli hit the nail on the head...this reunion is bringing us closer together in many more ways than just being on the beach together. It is a wonderful feeling reconnecting. I would love to hear from some of the guys, too.
Tina,
ReplyDeleteThanks, the same goes for you. My # is (603)913-4768 & suemarino@tds.net. I will take you up on it and i hope you will do the same.
Love, susanne
It's amazing how many are in the Arts and Education and Entrapenuers in business for themselves. Even though we are spread across this great country, I see many similarities within our family. COOL!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteLesli started the idea of shirts with a nice design and i played off her idea and now i think we have a pretty cool and fun design i'm hoping you'll like!! I need everyone's sizes (remember, kids sizes would be for next summer) and i can get an order placed. Please post your families sizes - i will order Men's, Women's and youth sizes so please specify size as well as M, W, Y.
Thanks! Tina
OK, here goes,
ReplyDeleteI am the 4th of the 5 children in our family. I grew up with an intense love of animals, especially horses, and always thought I’d be a veterinarian. When I was 18, Daddy introduced me to Louisiana Downs racetrack, and I became completely involved with thoroughbreds. Several years later, on the day I got my jockey’s license from the Louisiana Racing Stewards, a day I dreamt of for years, I was hit head on by a carload of drunken kids. Long story short…it crushed all the joints and broke just about all the long bones in my left side, as well as my pelvis in several places. Needless to say, it dashed any chances I had at having a career as a jockey. After that I spent several years lost, not knowing what to do with myself. In 1989 I moved home to Arkansas and began work on my BSE, which I completed in 1994. During this time I tried to have a child on two occasions. Both were lost in the third trimester. So, in 1994, I moved to Phoenix, AZ, hoping to benefit from the advanced prenatal care I could find there. I worked my way up the corporate ladder with Intel and Hoffman Structures, teaching safety classes on what was then the largest construction site in the world. I eventually became a safety administrator on that site and decided it was time to try again, but alas, again a still birth in the third trimester. Just a few months after Daddy died, I married at age 35, and became pregnant again. Thankfully, Ian was born via emergency c-section at 25 weeks gestation. He weighed 1lb, 6oz. God gave me a miracle in Ian, because he was supposed to be blind, deaf and mentally challenged, but he is a bright, inquisitive child who is full of affection. The doctors say he is a high functioning autistic child, which manifests itself as small quirks and a little stuttering. Ian has taught me the meaning of happiness. We have been through a myriad of dangers and horrors with his father’s drug addictions, but that is all over now. I am again at home in Arkansas, living across the creek from Mom. And, although I suffer from the “family disease” of heart problems, and quite a bit of arthritis pain from all the broken joints 29 years ago, I am truly blessed to be Ian’s mom…and we have a happy home.
Tina,
ReplyDeleteI will need a women's XL. That's only one X.
Bobby will need a Mens L.
Elizabeth will need a Youth XL (12-14). If no Youth XL then she will need a women's small (or Xsamll if available).
Mom will do with a womens L.
Nothing like letting everyone know your size.LOL!
Tina,
ReplyDeleteI wear a women's 2X or a men's XL. (My sholders are more broad than most women's) Ian will need a youth L, if that is the same as a 10-12.(?)Thanks! :-)
What's apparent to me after reading the family stories is we are resilient, determined, hopeful and strong. What we are NOT - lucky!
ReplyDeleteTina, here are our sizes: Chris will need a men's large, Sophia a youth small, and for me, I'd like a women's size 10, so whether that's closer to a medium or large I will leave up to you. Can't wait to see them...
ReplyDeleteTina, here are mine, mom's and Paul's sizes:
ReplyDeleteMom wants a womans XL, Paul-mens XL and for me- womans med. Thanks again, I think this is a great idea!! What is the cost and who do we send the money to?:)XO
Thanks Susanne. Actually i don't want any money yet - i need to figure out how many we need of each men's, women's, and youths. Once I get a price on entire lot, i can provide a cost per shirt. I'm thinking about $10 but i'm not 100% sure yet. Stay tuned.
ReplyDeleteHey Tina! I have more T-shirt sizes for you: Sandy, women's XL; Peter, men's L; Mike, men's XL. Also, for me, I wasn't sure if I wanted a women's M or L, but I think it best to go with a medium. I'll talk to Keri and find out what sizes she wants for her family. :)
ReplyDeleteOk, at my house I need an woman XL (if pre-shrunk a L will be better) and Katie will need a woman S...don't think I'll be able to talk Tooter in to coming and Meagan is afraid she won't be able to get the time off. So only two for me!
ReplyDeleteOK guys! It's been a week without a post. I hope some of us didn't scare the rest of you away with our stories. The one's of us who have already shared would love to hear from the rest of you. That would be...John and Nicole, Jim, Mike, Kevin, Keith, Bill, Burt, Cindy, Keri, Mike, and Joe and Frank if someone can let them know to get on the blog. Even if they can't make it, we would still love to hear from them. We are still working on making contact with Angela.
ReplyDeleteTina, Billy's family t-shirt sizes are - 3 adult large, 3 adult amall, 2- youth small, and 4 youth large.
I hope someone posts something soon. I'm having withdrawals!!
My Mom has found a phone number for Angela. I'll get in on the blog tonite...Keri would you give her a call and let her know what is going on??
ReplyDeleteThe phone number that Sandy gave me is the same one that Carol had. The number has been disconnected with no additional information. I am going to go ahead and do a background search on Angela and see if I can find her that way. Is her husband's name Terry? Anyone know? I have a last name of Lund.
ReplyDeleteA few days before my 18th birthday a goog friend asked me to go to a ball game with her to help her patch up a disagreement with a young airman that she really wanted to be with. I was sitting on the bleachers when Betty Sue said "There he is" and I looked and saw a blond headed, wavy haired young airman in work clothes and my heart said "That's mine". I meet him the next Sunday at a friends house. That Sunday was my Birthday. We were immediately together. He proposed on May22, 1854. (by the way that's Burt's birthday) I accepted and he had to go in and ask my Mama for my hand. That's a story within its' self. On June 1 he found out that he was being statoned in England for two years. Bob returned to Shreveport in October of 1956. He came to the house twice before we saw each other. I walked in, looked across the dining room table at him and we were back to the place we had been before he left. Bob asked me, again, to marry him and we were married on April 27, 1957. Keri came along on December 21, 1957. Kathy on June 11,1959, Billy on July 27, 1960, Donna on November 23, 1961 and Burt on May22, 1964. Bob and I loved together, laughed together, worked together and cried together until December`4, 1996. As before that date I still am working in education. I retired in 1999 and in 2001 went back to work parttime mentoring new teachers. I have returned to live at Cove. I live with JoJo, a black lab mix who is a sweet gentleman, and Jeanie, a pomapoo ww0 was a gift from Keri and is a real minx, and Tripod my three legged cat. I miss Bob but am content with my life.
ReplyDeleteMom, YOU DID IT! HOORAY! I also miss my Daddy very much, but I am in awe of my mother...a strong, moral, intelligent, devoted, fun and loving partner for my Daddy and an amazing mom to all 5 of us. My Daddy made an excellent choice!!
ReplyDeleteMom, I've always loved that story...almost as much as the panties and the trousers, on your wedding night! I framed that picture of Daddy that I found in my trunk the other day. He's now watching over me as I sit and type this post. As I always say, the secret to happiness is not in having what you want...it's in wanting what you have...I know you understand that, because you're the reason I can celebrate my memories of Daddy and enjoy my son...warts and all. I want what I have and and I am happy because of it. What a great Mom! I love you!
ReplyDeleteOK Everybody. I finally got an answer at the # in NH for Angela. Bad news... the # has been reassigned to someone else, and they don't know who she is. I have a previous address for Angela and Terry from Sandy and another address I got from a search on her. I am going to mail a letter to both addresses and see if I get a reply or a forwarding address, or something. After that I am at a loss. Does anyone know if her husband is still in the military? Or maybe where Angela may have worked? Otherwise, all I know to do is wait and see if she maybe contacts Aunt Carol or someone during the holiday season. I was really hoping we would be able to find her.
ReplyDeleteThanks Keri for doing so much investigating. I hope Angela can be included in our reunion but of course we need to find her! I just wanted to thank you for your efforts.
ReplyDeleteWell it has taken a little longer than that evening for me to get back to typing this, but better late than never, even if it has been almost a month. I am John (Burt) Nichols. I was born in Shreveport, La on May 22nd, 1964. 10 Years to the day after Dad asked for Mom's hand. We lived at 6109 Lovers Lane for the first 9 years of my life, and then we moved to Cove, Ar. My life was good, being the last of five children all the other kids said (and still do)I was spoiled and got away with everything. I like to think that I was an observant child and learned from my siblings’ mistakes...and chose not to get caught in those situations like they did. After high school I started college at La Tech. The first quarter was great, all A's and B's. The second quarter was not quite so good, but very acceptable...then I joined a fraternity and pledged during the 3rd (spring) quarter. What a disaster that was. I ended up with a 0.5 for the term. 3 F's and 1 D. That ended the pledging and I lost the grant for out of state tuition so I came back to Arkansas and started at Henderson State University. After one year there I joined the Army National Guard to help pay for school and went to boot camp at Fort Benning Georgia. I came home with a renewed sense of urgency to complete my education. (Didn’t want to do that the rest of my life) Back at Henderson I met the person that would become the center of my world. Cherrie and I dated for the remainder of my college and after I graduated and got a job Cherrie and I married. During the first 9 years with Wal-mart we were assigned to 7 different stores and seemed to be on the move all the time. Brian was growing up, and looking back I did not have time to notice. Shae came along after we moved back to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and again I was busy doing what I thought was important and missed out on a lot of her childhood. Now my Dad on the other hand seemed to really have a ball with the kids and had a special fondness for Cherrie. When Dad passed I was in Eldon, Mo. I asked to be transferred back home to Mena, Arkansas and Wal-mart was good enough to move us home. For the next 6 years I worked at the Mena Store, and was happy to be close to family and friends again. Then in 2003 I left Wal-mart after almost 15 years to run a manufacturing company about 80 miles south of Mena. We were unsure and me being very much a creature of habit was reluctant to make such a big change in my career after putting so much time and effort into Wal-mart, but the 70 hour weeks and days off not really being off were catching up to us. I kind of felt like the Bob Seiger song “Against the Wind”. Anyway with the unwavering support of my Beautiful Wife I jumped out of my safety ring for the first time in my life and have enjoyed every minute since. Cherrie started back to school to finish her degree, and I had time to coach my little ones basketball team for the first time ever. Oh yea, I forgot to put in that a little over 2 years after we moved back to Mena, we were blessed with the third child of our brewed, Suni. I wish Dad had gotten to hold her. She had his hair and when you looked into her eyes you would swear you were staring into Dad's eyes. So now with three kids at home, and a wife starting back to school, and houses burning down, (two of them in less than two years)and here I was jumping off the career that I had been trying to build for the past 15 years. Things were busy to say the least. Anyway, the career change was the 2nd best thing that ever happened to me. (Cherrie being the first!)
ReplyDeleteLike I said I had time to do things I never had time to do before. Cherrie finished her degree in early childhood education, and then went on to get her Masters in Special Education this past September. I am so proud of her she will never know, and she did this after the age of forty, kept our home running without missing a beat, during the last year she was working full time, and managed to maintain a 3.84 GPA overall. She is AMAZING!!! Now she works for the Dequeen/Mena Educational Coop as a special education teacher servicing 5 schools in our local area. Oh yea, did I mention that her boss is also her Mother-n-law...no pressure there!!! I had a heart attack in 2006 and slowed down for 5 or 6 days! I have been learning to take life a little less seriously and roll with the punches a little bit more. Brian already tells the girls "that's not the same dad that I had growing up!" But it seems like as I learn to slow down and enjoy life a bit more, everyone else is speeding up and off. Brian has 3 years in the Army. He did a year in South Korea and is now stationed at Fort Hood, Tx. He has a little girl (our grand daughter) named Kaelyn that is now 3. It seems like last week that Cherrie and I were trying to find a flight back from Acapulco in the middle of our first "JUST US" vacation since we got married so we could be here for the birth. We were a few hours late, but it was still glorious. And last year we had Shae's sweet 16 party...not a little girl any more. (I still think they are putting something in the chicken) and Suni will be 11 in April. It is all starting to go by to fast. That is one of the reasons that we are so excited about getting to see everyone, some again and many for the first time this July. I can not wait for my kids to see their heritage, and the kind of Greats and Goofs that make up the NICHOLS CLAN!!! I have not figured out how to post a picture yet, but that will be coming soon. I love all you guys, and can't wait for my family to love all of you too.

I was just looking at this, and I'm not very good with math, but If I counted right there are a couple of folks that have not shared their story yet...?.?.?.?.?
How was that Keri?
ReplyDeleteGood Job Burt!
ReplyDeleteC'mon guys. Get with it. Let's keep this blog going til the reunion. Just share a little bit aboout your life. You don't have to tell all. We will find that out in July! LOL. You know how kids talk!
I'll share some news and ask for some prayers...
Elizabeth is published in The National Honor Roll and Bobby is published in Who's Who Registry of Academic Excellence this year. I am very proud of them both. These honors are by school official nomination and then commity approval of their school records. They have both worked very hard.
I am battling another kidney stone right now...NOT fun. I am determined to pass it, as I have been fortunate enough to do in the past. Don't like the idea of surgery. Yep, a a day surgery nurse who doesn't want to have a simple day surgery procedure...go figure.
The prayers though are for my youngest child. Bobby passed some blood this weekend and we are very concerned what caused it. If you all didn't know, Daddy was plagued with ulcerative colitis most of his life. Then, several years ago, my oldest son, Bo, was diagnosed with the same thing. Bo was only 19 then. Bobby is scheduled this Thursday for a complete upper and lower GI series, an endoscopy and a colonoscopy with biopsies. Alot for a little guy to go through. Hopefully we will find that he has just a simple ulcer or some irritation from a virus and can rule out colitis. Your prayers are much appreciated.
SO!!, what is up in your lives??????
I'm thinking of Bobby and send lots of positive energy and love to you all. Let us know what the tests say. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Keri,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Bobby. Please keep us posted on his condition. Love to all.
Well, Bobby does have inflammatory bowel disease, gastritis and colitis, but there are no ulcerations...just inflammation. The good news is, it is very early and the inflammation can be controlled with medicine so, hopefully, he will not develop any ulcerations. He was so good today at the hospital. He was also very funny after he was given the versed, but I promised him we would keep all those funny things he said between us unless he wanted to tell them. He had me, the nurses and the doctor giggling up a storm. We came home and he finally got something to eat. We are waiting on Elizabeth to get home from school so I can go get his RXs filled. Then I just bet he won't last that long tonight after all he has been through today. Looking forward to an early evening.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for their prayers. We were definately FEELIN THE LOVE!!!
So glad to hear that he has no ulcerations. Give him a big hug from us...sounds like quite an ordeal he had to go through, and with such humor. Sounds like a very special kid! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Guys. Bobby is feeling much better today! And thanks for your prayers for Donna. She is having thyroid problems. Will need surgery in the near future.
ReplyDeleteWe finally had our first little cool snap in the Deep South. Got down to the upper 40's last night. I actually had to turn the heat on for a couple of hours. Today is gorgeous!! At noon we have a clear blue sky, light winds and 63'. Beautiful weather. The kids and I are getting outside. Elizabeth is headed to the State Fair with friends, Bobby is headed to a birthday party, and I am going to mow my lawn, hopefully for the last time this season. I hope everyone has as beautiful a day as we are having. Love to all!!!
ReplyDeleteI think about this Nichols Family Reunion EVERY DAY!! The excitement is ever present. There will be 18 of us 1st cousins together, 19 if Joey can make it for a few days, and 41 of our offspring. 41 second cousins that have never been all together at the same time before. 41 new lifetime friendships and family bonds to make. NOW THAT IS PRICELESS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKeri,
ReplyDeleteWe were sorry to hear about your son Bobby, but we are very happy to hear that he is doing well. Sorry about not keeping in touch, was not able to get on this blog for a while. Not sure why. Carol's clan is very excited to meet and see you all!!;) Talk to you all soon. Lots of love, Aunt Carol and Susanne
Susanne,
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to re-connecting with your Mom and meeting you and Jen. Aunt Carol is very special to me. She is also my Godmother. I have such great memories of spending a summer with her at the old house on South Street in Needham. It has been way too long for all of us. I know we are all going to have such a fabulous time. I wish you all would consider staying with us on grounds at the resort. There is plenty of room and you will probably be there 20 out of 24 hours a day anyway. If you change your mind, just let us know. Please give your Mom a huge hug for me and tell her I love her.
Love, Keri
Keri,
ReplyDeleteMom sends you a hug back. She laughed when i read your blog and said it brought back many funny memories. LOL :)
XOXO's Aunt Carol
Hi to everyone - This is Aunt Sandy or should I say Ant Sandy & Uncle Peter
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Burt's story I noticed that he said his son Brian is stationed at Fort Hood, TX. After what happened there last week, I am hopeful that your son is not hurt physically or we would have heard from you. It was such a horrific tragedy - unbelievable - but what isn't in today's world - very scary out there.
We are all excited about gathering with the clan in July next year. We lived in our home town of Needham until July 2006, when we moved to Brewster on Cape Cod, MA. Basically retired, we do pretty much what we like to do, biking, walking, traveling to Clearwater, FL for a few weeks in the Spring and then visiting our good friends in NC on the way home in April. We wish Lesli, Chris and Sophia lived closer, but try to visit them each year. We do get to see Keri, Doug, Madeline and Logan and Michael quite often.
During the school year, I am a substitute secretary at Harwich High School - a little extra spending money. Peter still plays his sports - golf, and he plays in the summer on the oldtimers softball league - We do have lots of yard work, since we didn't down size, instead we have 1 1/2 actes and a big house to accomodate whoever can come visit, which in the summer is very busy - We love it!!!!!
Love to you all, Sandy & Peter
Aunt Sandy,
ReplyDeleteSounds like you and Uncle Peter have the world by the tail. Glad to hear you are both still so active. We will have to take you up on coming to visit one summer. Burt's son, Brian is at Fort Hood. He was able to call Burt shortly after the incident and let him know that he wasn't near the shooting and was fine. The base was on lock down for several hours, but they did allow the soldiers to make a phone call home to let everyone know they were ok. I think Burt went down this past weekend to see Brian. I haven't talked to him in a few days. Thanks for your concern and YES, we would let you know if something had happened...now that we are all back in touch with each other. I hope that this reunion will help solidify our communications as a family again and that we never loose touch with each other again. Love to everyone.
Keri
Has anyone else received their lease agreement for the rentals at Corolla Light? I received mine, and it is 30% higher than what I was told on the phone. Granted they said it was last year's price and said they didn't know what the price would be this year, but when I asked if the cost usually jumps from year to year, I was told no. So, we do have one of the most inexpensive rentals and it is still a good deal considering all the resort has to offer, but I thought I'd check with all of you to see if your rentals were close to what you were told. I find it a bit suspicious that they take reservations THEN set their prices. I was going to call and talk to someone and see what they say about it. But, jacking the price in this economy because there seems to be a demand seems a bit fishy to me. Let me know if anyone else was told a price that differs considerably from the lease agreement. Thanks, L.
ReplyDeleteHey Lesli,
ReplyDeleteI also asked about the possibility of a rate increase and she said it would be nominal. However, about a week or so after booking our rental went up about 30% over last year as well. Also on my lease it automatically adds travel insurance and a pet fee which adds a couple hundred but they can be opted out.
Ours went from $5600 to $5795 before taxes, so not that much different. The taxes are almost 14% but you can opt out of the travel insurance. #118 is a 4BR with extra play room for $2695, #140 is 4BR with private den for $2750, and #120 is 4BR for $2500 and all are still available. Check them out and see if you like them better for the price. I had read somewhere that they were making some improvements to some of the properties. That may account for the increase. It's not too late to change your selection before you sign the lease if you see something you like better.
ReplyDeleteI spoke to someone today who told me that the original price I was told was incorrect and that the cost of the rental actually went down by $300...hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteBilly's house actually did go down $270.
ReplyDeleteInteresting stuff girls. I think I will call before sending in our check - although I generally am not a lucky person it's worth a shot!
ReplyDeleteI made the call today. Our rental was $2K last year and $2995 this year so unfortunately our lease agreement is correct. However, we did know the price prior to receiving the lease and we'll stick with what we have.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you all...my beloved family! I am so very thankful that we have all found each other again and are going to have a wonderful reunion in 7 months on the beaches of North Carolina.

I've got an idea for the reunion that I think I want to try. I need everyone to let me know their favorite song of all time. Doesn't matter if it is old or new, rock, classical, big band, country, pop, gospel, patriotic, or God forbid, rap. Just let me know the title and if possible the artist. And NO, I will not tell you what I am up to.
ReplyDeleteHey Keri,
ReplyDeleteI need to get going on the shirts as well. If you have not posted your size, please let me know. We will do unisex adult and kids. Please specify adult or kids when you post the sizes.
Here's my new favorite song:
"Don't you wish it were true" – John Fogerty
Thinking of you LOTS, Donna, and sending prayers. Let us know how the surgery goes.

Hi Everyone! Sorry it took me so long to post...pain meds had me kind of loopy. My thyroid was a monster and it's removal took quite a while longer than anyone expected. But I'm here, I've got a warm forhead, and I'm breathing... Can't ask for much more than that! Don't have the pathology yet, but doc says it looks really good. I'm feeling a LOT better, and I'm loving being able to swallow so effortlessly. Can't say I'm really enjoying my voice being gone...but I'm sure my family is enjoying it (haha) and anyway, it's getting stronger very quickly. Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes...they mean SO much to me. I am truely blessed by God and my family. My love to you all...Ian sends his love as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite songs is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack. I tried to have a child for so many years...and the day I got to hold Ian for the first time...oh...well...that song...you know?
ReplyDeleteGreat news Donna. God Bless.

ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you're doing well, Donna. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMy song is "Feeling Good" by Michael Buble or "Little Drummer Boy" by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Donna, glad you are feeling better, my prayers are with you. Love, Kathy

ReplyDeleteBad about Christmas cards but promise to give it a whirl after finals!
Favorite Song...harder. Maybe my wedding song, "Heaven" by Bryan Adams. But love most of the 70's rock.
Really looking forward to meeting everyone in July and re-establishing old relationships!
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
ESTHER says: Two songs- Too young by Nat King Cole and Embraceable You (don't know who it is by). We're having a Thanksgiving/Christmas gathering for this end of the Nichols clan this Saturday. We will be thinking about all the rest of the Nichols clan.

ReplyDeleteSorry it has taken us so long to climb on the "Blog Train", but we're old and don't have a computer. Keith who is writing this blog. "Hello everyone"! was able to pull up the family blog until his computer got a bunch of virus' and worms. so we had no idea that Donna was having surgery. We are glad everything is OK now.
As you all know Kenny died in 1987 at age 23 from a brain tumor and bone cancer. We still miss him terribly.
Kevin has already blogged about his family, so I will let Keith tell you about his own.
Hello again. I am a divorced father of three beautiful children Morgan 15, Hunter 13, and my princess Alexis 11.
They only live about 2 miles from me, so I see them often and speak on the phone with them almost every day. We have a great relationship with each other, and their mother and I get along pretty good for the most part.lol
Uncle Gary for those who don't know has a few health problems. He rrecently has had a mild heart attack back in December a few days before Christmas. Thank God they caught it in time so there was minimal damage. He is still bleeding internally and after almost 1 year of tests they still can't find out where he is bleeding from, or what is causing his blood to be so low. He has had 8 blood tansfusions since last fall. Th only good thing is that he doesn't feel sick at all. Only tired. He is also having problems with his legs and is having a hard time walking. Once the doctors get his heart and blood problems under control, they are going to put "stents" in his legs.
As for me, I am still doing some cake decorating, but not as much as I did in past years. I'm kind of glad because Fibromyalgia has taken it's toll on me and my legs don't want to work anymore. I'm bound and determined to stay out of a wheelchair so I walk very slow and with a big limp, but I am still walking. I am looking forward to the reunion more than you'll ever know and can hardly wait to see you all.
I chuckle to myself when I think about how we are going to take care of meals down there. I picture us ordering 75 pizzas one night and wonder how they will get them done, or even if they will believe it's a real order. Ha Ha. Then I wonder what would happen if we call a restaurant and make reservations for 95 people!
Our Address is:

Mine and Uncle Gary's favorite song is:
I can't stop loving you By Elvis.
Our very special song that reminds us of Kenny is:
The Rose By Bette Midler.
Sorry this Blog wa so long, but once I start writing, I get a little carried away.
This is Keith again I just wanted everyone to know that I'm going to the hospital right now to have them take care of the Carpal Tunnel I just got from writing this blog. So long for now, and I will hopefully see everyone in July.
Keith, Uncle Birdie and Uncle Gary,
ReplyDeleteSo glad to finally hear from you guys!!! Can't wait until the family reunion. I got word last week that my 35 year high school reunion is going to be the July 4th weekend...oh well...they will have to wait until the 40th to see me cause I'll be in North Carolina at a much grander reunion!!! Keith, Pizza Hut here has a $10 for any pizza deal going on now. It would be great for one night if that deal is still going. We are going to plan some family meals in the evenings so we can all meet at the BIG HOUSE for dinner. My kids are so excited to see all their cousins that they didn't know existed until recently. I am very excited to see all of you guys again. It has been WAY to long! Prayers going up for everyone to stay healthy until we can meet in July. See ya real soon!
Love, Keri
Aunt Birdie, I am sorry! HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteHmmm, the family dinners are going to be a challenge - think it should be more of a potluck - thoughts? I would prefer not to spend a whole day shopping and cooking for 90 people - love you guys but this is vacation too!!! Plus with all the kids we most certainly will have our share of "picky" eaters. Or maybe we gather at John's house for apps and drinks before or after dinner? I'm flexible and am game for anything, just throwing out my 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteAlso want to mention I need to get moving on those tshirts! Instead of the shirt sizes posted here I would prefer you all to send a check along with a list of the sizes you want ordered. That way I can make a master list and know it's correct. I will post again this week and let you know the costs. I'm awaiting some print quotes right now. Should still be around $10/shirt. Feel free to order more than 1 for yourself if that's your preference, just capture the totals in your check along with sizes.
4 months to go .... so excited!
Awww...come on Tina. Don't like the idea of cooking for 90? Just do spagetti. Or just take your tipical family dinner for 30 and triple it. Seriously, pot luck sounds good for some of the nights. I'm sure we will have a burger and hotdogs night too. If we do dinner out one night we will definately need to make reservations. I hope we don't all do dinner separately each night. The reason we chose the beach for this reunion is so we would all spend time together and not with everyone going different directions. Closing the evening out together ensures we spend that time together as I'm sure with all the kids we will be going 9 different directions during the days.
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE...Be sure to get your shirts ordered when Tina gets the info posted. This is going to be the shirt to have...definately ONE OF A KIND. When they get passed out in NC you won't want to be the only one without one.
ALSO, if you haven't posted your favorite song yet, please think about it and post. You won't want to be left out of this either.
Love to all!!
Maybe we could have a couple of theme nights, like a luau with coconuts and grass skirts or a hoedown(sp) with cowboy hats and kerchiefs. That could make for some interesting pictures!! I also suggest lots of paper plates so no one has to spend all night cleaning. We could also have a pot luck Italian night with lasagna, spaghetti with meatballs, meatball subs, etc. That would be easy to throw together.
ReplyDeleteThat all sounds great. In our immediate family, we are spliting the things to bring. One doing paper products, one doing non-perishable breakfast food, one doing can goods, etc... We prefer not to have to buy anything but perishable food once we get there. Don't forget the sodas, water and friut juices.
ReplyDeleteLove the theme dinner idea! how fun :)
ReplyDeleteHow about an "Irish" night...Lots of beer and some really bad food.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'll head up the "survivor" night ... a little white rice and a spot of water. I can do that for 90 people!
ReplyDeleteI think I like John's idea better. We will have to do a GUMBO night and turn you guys onto some good old fashion Southern Gumbo. I hope we can find some fresh crawfish up there. If not we can do chicken and sausage. Hey Tina...you can join in on gumbo night and do the rice!!!!Problem solved. No matter what we do, we are going to have such a wonderful time. Just remember the peanut butter and chicken nuggets for the kids.
ReplyDeleteI suggested to John that maybe we should contact a local restaurant to possibly cater the dinners? Not to serve, but to provide the pre-made meals? Cooking for 90 folks is definitely beyond my capabilities. (I have a hard enough time cooking for 4.)
ReplyDeleteGood ideas on the meals! And if you take out the days we're arriving and leaving, it really only comes down to Monday thru Thursday or Friday. I think the potluck dinners sound good, and themes for food are good to be able to get everyone on board for a whole meal, but maybe without the costumes?? The organization involved to get us all to a restaurant will be so much more work than cooking a dish for everyone, and very hard to get up and talk to who you want. And, each family doesn't really have to make a dish for 90 people....if "Italian" night, then 2 or 3 people make enough spagetti for 30, another 2 or 3 make garlic bread for 30...the same for salad and meatballs. No need to have 10 dishes each night, or to overwhelm anyone. Let's keep in simple so there's lots of time to mingle and chat :)
ReplyDeleteYour right Lesli, it is not as bad as it sounds. I know the 90 number is scary to some, but it will all come together. If you are only use to doing 10 to 20 then 90 seems so far out. But for those of us accustomed to doing 25 to 30, it is just 3 times everything. We will do fine and nobody wants to be worried about cooking 4 hours a day. We can keep it simple and spend an hour or so preparing meals and visiting while we are doing it. Not to mention the taste testing of the food...of course with a little beer or wine to wash it down with. Itallian is great for one night-easy and everyone can pitch in. Burgers and dogs for another, southern gumbo and fried fish, and the luau idea sounds great, maybe with alot of fresh friut, throw in a couple of nights with sandwich trays and chips and we have each night covered. We could even spring for pizza one night. As we get closer to time we can plan it out better. After we all get down there we can have the grocery team go into town for the haul. I nominate Burt from our group. He's a good shopper and always comes back with plenty. I hope somebody is driving a truck. LOL
ReplyDeleteI like the pizza night, Italian night, and Gumbo night ideas. I also think it's a good idea to have a restaurant cater a seafood night. That leaves only two nights to figure something out. If we had a luau, could we roast a pig on a spit? I think that would be really cool...and I nominate Burt to do it. Anyone who's had one of his steaks, or fried fish knows, he's a genious with meats. Also, burger and dogs night sounds really easy and would be fun for everyone.
ReplyDeleteAunt Birdie and Uncle Gary, it was great to hear from you! Love all you guys and can't wait!!!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone. I just got onto the blog. Reading some of the blogs. Makes me cry and laugh at some of the stories. You guys are so great on keeping this going. My sister Ellen is visiting now and I want to spend the time with her, so I will get back to this later in the week.
ReplyDeleteMary Nichols
Great to hear from you Aunt Mary! Looking forward to seeing you in July.
ReplyDeleteTina...how much do we need to send you for the shirts???
Nicole... I was checking out some of the restuarants in Corolla and their are several that do catering or carry out for large gatherings. That could definately be an option one or two nights.
Everyone...LESS THAN 4 months to go...yipee!!

ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I have been on this site due to the fact that I have been extremely busy. I think the last time I was on it was last November.
ReplyDeleteSo here goes. I was born Sept. 29th 1964 and raised by under privileged Black Parents. OK, OK, I'm just kidding.
I got married to my lovely wife Robin on Oct. 7th 1989 [20 years ago] which was the same time I built our house behind mom & dad. We have 4 kids Tyler 18,Austin 16,Dylan 14, & Krysta 12. All of my kids play hockey & lacrosse pretty much all year.
I have my own electrical contracting business NICHOLS ELECTRIC which is now going on 22 years in business with 2 employees. I have 4 kids on 6 teams in 8 different hockey leagues. I head coach 2 teams and assistant coach on 4 other teams, so I stay really busy.
I like to cook and sometimes have to cook due to the fact that Robin works 8:00am-6:00pm daily @ TJX [T.J. Maxx] home office. So I usually get home early and prepare dinner before the kids go off to sports and try to time it so when Robin gets home we can eat as a family.
I love to golf, play hockey and I love the beach. We just bought a house on Cape Cod [Dennis] about 4 years ago. We don't get down there as much as we would like because of all the sports.
Robin has worked at TJX for 22years which is 5 min from our house. She is now the event coordinator the whole main office, which consist of Retirement parties,State of the company, cookouts, and awards/achievement ceremonies.
Tyler 18 played hockey for Framingham High school this year and is graduating the coming May. He also just received the Hobey Baker Character Achievement Award from his High School. Tyler has not decided on what collage he wants to attend yet. He has been accepted to Kansas State,Kent State & Florida Atlantic. He really wants UNH but we are still waiting. Tyler has a job at a local Sports bar as a host and he is a referee for hockey as well.
Austin 16 , also plays hockey & lacrosse at Framingham High school, and is currently on a Select Hockey team which plays all over New England. Grades are average, no job & wants his license soon. YA Right!!!
Dylan 14 , is currently in 8th grade and has been on the honor roll every term since he has been in middle school. He plays lacrosse and is a goalie in hockey.
Krysta 12, is a 6th grader who finally came home on the honor roll for the 1st time since being in middle school. She plays lacrosse and she is on a select girls hockey team, middle school girls hockey team & and a U-14 girls hockey team.
My whole family is looking forward to this reunion and so am I. John and I have been talking for the last 4 years about this trying to figure out a common place for everyone to meet and how to go about it. Well it is now here and I think this is a good thing. Uncle Dick,Uncle Bob,Uncle Paul and Aunt Betty would be so proud. My dad just got rushed to the hospital with congestive heart failure, but is doing fine now and should be out tomorrow.

I was talking with Burt this evening and if everyone is ok with it, we would like to do the 4th, Sunday, dinner. Burt does an excellent job with fresh fried fish, you would find it hard to beat his with any restuarant, and he thinks he can catch enough and bring it with us along with his fryer. We will also do burgers and dogs on the grill for anyone not liking fish (can't imagine anyone not liking this fish). We will include fries and salad. BYOB. As far as seats are concerned...do you really think you are going to get all those teenagers to sit down together at tables with the beach and pool in sight? I say the old folks, and you know who you are, can have the tables and chairs and the rest of us will find an empty place to sit or just mingle around. If it is very hot, I'm eating poolside. 60 seconds gathered for the blessing and then DIG IN!
